The Impact of the Pandemic

The world has always been surrounded by art since the beginning of time. Art Around Us Phoenix was created from the idea that bringing different art concepts can unite them as a whole. Many different artists love creating artwork as an enjoyment to them but what’s best to hear is how they were able to make a career out of it.
Phoenix, in particular, has various different art forms. There are many museums that a person can enjoy going to while checking out new ones that are coming on the way, for example, the Van Gogh Exhibit Phoenix that is coming soon!
Many local artists also deserve recognition for their work. As mentioned before, there are various art forms in Phoenix and in general. For example, what one might call graffiti, can also be called artwork. From a personal experience, I saw a couple of guys behind my house, specifically in the alley, starting to paint the wall. I was curious to know what they were doing so I checked it out and I saw big words (some I am still trying to decipher) with a scary person on the wall as their finished product. They did it in the span of 2-4 days, which was amazing! If any other person saw what they were doing, they might think it was just graffiti, as people would "normally do," but this wasn’t the case. When I had the opportunity to watch them create the process of making it, you can tell they took the time and effort to make what they had, even when the weather was starting to be hot, they were still out there creating it.
There are also many local artiststhat live in Arizona who share their artworks through exhibitions or through their website. Social media can now give big boosts to those artists especially during the current pandemic, many artists could have been affected by this in a good way or in a bad way. Not only artists, but museums and local exhibitions were affected as well.
As of now, museums are opened to visitorsto see artwork, but of course with caution and restrictions so that everyone can remain at a safe distance. Although, museums do offer fun events or exhibits online.
The Phoenix Art Museums in October 22, 2020 issued a statement of reducing admission for children and teens to $5 dollars during the pandemic. The story doesn’t end there, UMB Bank and William T. Kemper Charitable Trust “represented a 60% reduction in youth admission, providing a more affordable way for working families who have been economically impacted by the pandemic to visit the Museum.” During the pandemic there were economic barriers towards people who would like to go to a museum, but one other thing to point out is that the museum, generously, decided to lower its price for children and minors when the museum itself might have been impacted by the pandemic as well.
The National Geographic published a story in December 30, 2020, about a fellow artist, Andrea Stanislav, who had prepared for a fall exhibition. She also had a road-trip planned for her job as a professor in Indiana and a home studio in New York City. Unfortunately, she became one of the artists affected by the pandemic when the museums and other institutions had been impacted. This is an example of artists missing an opportunity to show and open an exhibition for their artwork, a lot of them were left in unfortunate situations and had to learn how to adapt to them.
The most we would like to do as a team is to shine light on artists that definitely deserve the praise, especially people of color or artists in the minority group, so that they have the amazing opportunity to showcase their art and tell us their story so that their artwork is shown, and their voices are heard.

Many artists have been affected by the pandemic and to have research based information that gives others a point of view of how exactly and how much they were affected, it can help others. This infographic is from the inspiration of the story about art and many other museums closing for safety or having less hours because of covid which can affect their business, but imagine the artists in them, much less a freelance artist. The information above is from the City of Phoenix.com, the resources for Artists of Color websiteand The Brookings Institution about the creative economy and Covid-19.
